Holiday Highlights – March!

March comes in like a lion and goes out like a lamb, and there are lots of fun days to celebrate in between!  The most popular March holiday is the fun and festive St. Patrick’s Day that is celebrated on March 17 with the wearin’ o’ the green and lots of clovers.  But there are a lot of other special days in March that may catch your fancy and inspire you to scrap!

Here are a few March “Holidays” that tickled my scrapping imagination:

March 1- Peanut Butter Lovers Day. Do you have a Skippy or JIF lover in the family?

March 2 – Dr. Seuss’s Birthday.  Many of us grew up enjoying Dr. Suess’s whimsical writing style.  From The Grinch to Green Eggs and Ham, he has a bevy of books for children to pore over.  Do you have a great Seussical memory?  Or a child that loves Dr. Seuss?  Does one of his quotes hit a chord these days?  Capture it.

March 3 – U.S. National Anthem Day. The song was written on September 14, 1814.  However, Americans celebrate this holiday on March 3, in celebration of the day that Congress made the Star Spangled Banner the U.S. National Anthem.

March 14 – National Pi Day. According to the Pi Day website, Pi, Greek letter (π), is the symbol for the ratio of the circumference of a circle to its diameter. Pi Day is celebrated by math enthusiasts around the world on March 14th. Pi = 3.1415926535…  With the use of computers, Pi has been calculated to over 1 trillion digits past the decimal. Pi is an irrational and transcendental number meaning it will continue infinitely without repeating.  Pi is celebrated annually on March 14.

March 17 – St Patrick’s Day AND Submarine Day! Yep… both holidays share the same date in March.  The United Kingdom is the most active country with Submarine Boat Day celebrations.

March 20 – International Earth Day. This occurs annually on the vernal equinox.  It was founded by John McConnell of Iowa in 1969 and was first celebrated in San Francisco.  In 1971 an Earth Day Proclamation was signed by the UN Secretary General, making it an International holiday!  Check out the International Earth Day Website for more information.

March 22 – National Goof Off Day. There really is a day just for kicking back and doing something you enjoy doing.  Take some time for you and have fun!

March 30 – Take A Walk In The Park Day. This is always celebrated on March 30…and with March going out like a lamb, it should be a beautiful spring day, right?!
