Do you know…Brine Design?

For this post, I searched far and wide, looking for a brand-new designer you probably haven’t seen yet. I stumbled across Katharyn Brine of Brine Design, and I could tell she has great potential. Her patterned papers are super-cute and her kits have some really unique elements. And, she has only been selling since October 2010!

Here’s a look at some of her products:
My personal favorite of hers-love the fresh color scheme, cute unique elements, and the lightly patterned papers.

I just love the primary colors, themed elements, and patterned papers. And oh, that handprint is so adorable!

I really love these little tags–what a great idea for Christmas! Simple and easy.

Totally gorgeous love kit–elegant but not too “girly.”

And here’s a look at some of her designs “in action”:

By scapimama. Love the circle cutouts, and the use of circles throughout her layout!

By camijo…wow, what a truly stunning layout. Those wordstrips, just amazing!

By monica_italy. Wow, I again love those circle cutouts…and that owl? Sooo precious!

By Katharyn herself. Love those cute photos, and the use of white space. Simple but oh-so-classy!

I thought it would be fun to get to know her a little, so I had her do a little Q&A for me. Read on to find out more about her and her designs…

How long have you been designing/selling?
Only a short while – I made my first kit and signed up to three shops in October 2010. I first considered designing my own products when I was giving away freebie templates on my blog for Kaisercraft Digital.
How long have you been digiscrapping?
Since the end of 2008. I never dreamed I’d convert from lumpy-bumpy paper to digi, but the change completely made sense when I was time-poor and really bad at getting to a photo processor (and then getting the wrong-sized photos to scrap anyway!) Digi scrapping has opened up so many doors for me, both professionally and creatively – and the community is so active, supportive and friendly! What’s better is that my children are getting old enough to read through their albums, and they love re-living the memories recorded inside.

How do you go about starting a kit? Do you pick a color palette
first, theme, or something else?

Yes, I’m hugely inspired by colours. I pick my colour palette first, create an inspiration board that outlines the direction I’m going to take, start making papers and wait patiently for a theme to come to mind. Only then can I go about making elements to suit! But as I rarely use specific themed kits to scrap with myself, I prefer to keep my kit themes quite general.

Who are some of your favorite designers?
Oh, this list could go on for days! Ali Edwards (for her stories and freedom of expression); Cathy Zielske (for her stories, graphic style & sense of humour); Carla Dudley; Peppermint Granberg; Fei Fei’s Stuff; Cinzia Loosemore; Amanda Taylor, Che Yang; all the crazy funny girls (and boy) at FPD and 2LP. There are so many more …

Where or how do you get your inspiration?
It can be from a colour combination that speaks to me, or an idea for a cool element that strikes me awake late at night, or something my kidlets have done that I need to scrap about.

What are some of your design goals?
I want to keep producing stuff that I would use myself. Keep everything balanced between family, scrapping for me and designing. And I’d aim to keep learning a new Photoshop technique with each process to broaden my skills. Ha! If that last one happens, I’ll be smokin’ lol!

What’s your favorite type of element?
Ones you can use over and over again, like good quality stitching, text paths, and fasteners. I am also a sucker for paper-like elements with subtle dimension and lots of texture.

Which is your favorite product?
Probably Arden, but it changes each time I produce something new!

What is your best-selling product?
This would have to be my Kendi kit, and Christmas Photo Tags.
